First, you will need a 3D ready display whether it is a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for showing 3D pictures in fast succession. A Source
Your display can be prepared for 3D playback, but you will still need a device to read 3D content. This may be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu ray Disc player, or a PlayStation three system. 3D Content

For now, the vast most of 3D HDTVs require glasses for 3D looking at. Many use powered “active shutter” glasses, others polarized “passive” glasses. You will need one pair per viewer, and they will must be matched with your display, if they are the same brand, or a pair of “universal” glasses intended to work across brands. HDMI Cable
To connect your source (such as a 3D Blu ray Disc player) to your display, you will need a high speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation feature bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second), for carrying the 3D signal without any loss of quality.

I have had last good luck with Panasonic home theater systems so I waited purchasing an upgrade till this has been released this year. And I am happy I did. What a great product. I have had it for two weeks now and I am really impressed with this system. I do not have a 3D TV, I only use this system for Bluray discs. You don’t have to own a 3D TV to use this as a bluray system.

I’ve shopped around for other home theater systems for a long time. I have gone to many electronics stores, Fry’s, Best purchase, Target, but I wasn’t impressed with any of the other brands out there. Sony, Samsung, LG, I really believe this Panasonic system beats them all by quality, sound, picture, and features.

Likes:

Viera Cast: fitted prepared to go WiFi for streaming netflix, vudu, and many other services. This thing will also do Skype!

Down firing subwoofer: Panasonic changed the subwoofer so it fires the bass into your floor, creating a theater like boom and experience. And let me tell you, this subwoofer really rumbles my condo. The bass is deep, no distortion whatsoever when I have cranked this system really deafening. I am really impressed with the design of the subwoofer. If you want to watch movies silently or crank it up throughout an action packed movie, the bass made by this system is totally jaw dropping.

Cinema Surround Sound The theater surround sound feature you may be able to turn on really increases the surround effect of movies, making this 5.1 system sound like a 7.1 system. I recommend turning the rear surround speakers up, you may be able to customize every speaker and how deafening you want them to be. You may be able to increase the bass output. The surround sound made is clear, crisp, sounds excellent, and throughout actions scenes you do not realize that it is the superb surround experience making your heart pound, not the movie.

2 HDMI Inputs & Optical In: The SC BTT370 lets you to connect your xbox or ps3 or whatever has an HDMI source straight to the unit, so you do not have a ton of fussing and forgetting which system is hooked straight to your TV and what setting you’re supposed to be on. I have my xbox directly connected to the surround sound system and it works flawlessly.

Picture: The deep color and full 1080p picture renders beautifully. I’m breathless when watching bluray movies on this system. The Netflix and VUDU streaming services are integrated nicely, and look stunning also. I watched U 571 and Blawhawk Down last night, and I still could not believe how clear and beautiful the picture was.

3D Discs: I don’t have a 3D TV, and you don’t need a 3D TV to use this player. I talked to many people who bought this system, and they rave about the 3D potential and I believe it. They told me this play blows the PS3 out of the water by 3D generating and detail.

The sound that comes out of this little unit is amazing. The small size is just unbelievable, and the unit never gets hot. I has been worried because this unit doesn’t have a powered subwoofer, but the bass is deafening and leaves me impressed and not wanting more. As well, the speaker grills are metal and lasting (not cloth covers, like on last models). I love the Vieracast internet available content. With my fast internet connection, the movies from Vudu load instantly and look nearly better than my live FIOS HD picture. I also love the German news Vieracast app, I just wish they had more apps on the unit. The FM radio is better than projected.

But there are many pretty annoying negatives:

The problem with this unit is the software. Though the GUI looks pretty, it has many serious restrictions. Last Panasonic units could remember what input you were last using when you turned them off, and the next time you turned them on could already be switched to that input. On this unit, but, that doesn’t happen. I only use this unit to watch my cable’s STB which is plugged into the unit’s HDMI 1 input. But, EVERY TIME I turn the unit on, it goes back to the default HOME screen (where you have to graphically decide what you could input you could like to use) rather than going directly to the HDMI 1 input. This extra and needless step stops me from just using my one cable tv remote to turn on my TV, my STB, and this unit. I can use that other remote to turn this unit on, but I STILL have to use the remote that came with this unit to navigate away from the HOME screen and tell it to switch to HDMI 1. This is very annoying and it really doesn’t seem right why Panasonic made this change from last year’s model.

Another annoying software problem is that it takes FOREVER to switch to the HDMI inputs. I do not know what the unit is doing while it it switching to the HDMI input (analyzing, thinking, whatever), but it takes about 5 7 seconds before my STB’s image appears on the connected TV. This is in direct contrast to switching inputs on my Panasonic TV, where switching HDMI inputs is nearly instant.

So, the big negative is that it takes about 20 seconds to turn on the unit, grab the remote, navigate away from the HOME screen to the HDMI input, , then wait, wait, wait, till it activates the input and really puts a picture out on the connected TV. For me, this is way too long, particularly if I just want to fire the unit up real fast to watch many fast news throughout lunch.

I am considering returning this unit for this reason, though the excellent price and the excellent sound it puts out makes my choice hard.

If you are not a time conscious person, maybe the unit’s slooooow input switching won’t annoy you. Or the fact that you have to go through the HOME menu EVERY time you turn the unit on. In that case, this will be a great unit for you. You will love the sound you will get out if it!

We also enjoy the apps included (mainly the Pandora app) to listen to music.

Set up was pretty simple, though the basic information don’t include information for connecting a DVR/set top cable box/etc. And that requires many extra steps and another HDMi or optical cable to make all the connections.

But there are some number of things that are really disappointing to me. Though there’s a USB port, it doesn’t seem to recognize any USB devices I attached (two WD external hard drives and a Philips MP3 player).According to their online tech support the USB port “is only for a wireless LAN adaptor. It isn’t for connecting anything else.” This is weird, because this system is already wireless.

This system does does have an SD card slot, but the tech support indicates that it only supports four file types: MPEG2, AVCHD, JPEG and MPO. That means that the SD card reader won’t play MOV, MP4, MP3, AVI, RM or any of the other common multimedia file types. So far, this system was unable to recognize any of the three SD cards I tried to use. I think they have to be “formatted” 1st. So much for plug and play; you won’t be able to take the SD card from your camcorder and plug it in to watch your movies.

The surround sound and picture quality are great, the FM receiver works well (you’ll just have to be sure the antenna is expanded up as far as possible to help pick up the weaker stations), and it comes loaded with some number of different alternatives for listening to music and watching movies/videos via the internet (i.E. Pandora and Netflix, just to name two) which work great. The set up was easy (it comes with a DVD that I did not use), the speaker wires are all color coded so you easily connect the correct speaker to the correct wire to the correct plug on the back of the base unit. The only problem I had with the wires is that the ones for the two rear speakers were about 15 feet too short for the way I wanted to place them. I just bought a 75 foot coil of speaker wire from Walmart for $15 which I then cut and spliced onto the present wire so I could run them down through floor, across the floor joists, , then up through the floor to place them where I wanted them. The only other minor issue I had is that for the 1st couple of days it could not start up and shut down properly. I had to turn it on, turn it off, , then turn it on again before I could get any sound. And when I could turn it off it could go into “stand by” mode for at least 30 seconds (during which time it could not react to any input commands from the remote) before shutting off. But by day three or four these start up/shut down issues totally disappeared. With the two small issues I had I could certainly purchase another one and recommend friends to purchase one.

Only get this if you are going to use it for BluRay and usually when watching tv,cable, or sat, you will just use the tv’s speakers. Otherwise it is annoying to be dealing with many remotes to get everything set to the correct input.

1) This system does not offer discrete input codes (remote does not have any and Logitech (our dear remote) does not show any). What that means is that to go from TV to BluRay, or vice versa, you have to push a button called “function” over and over again to loop through all the inputs (tv,cable/sat,fm,hdmi1,hdmi2) . Very annoying and slow. Worse, there is no onscreen display of what input it is on. And when switching through fm, since we do not use fm, we were rewarded with deafening hiss. Only on the unit itself is there a tiny display, but that display is facing UP! So you can not really see anything from where majority of people sit, the sofa.

2) the remote doesn’t have any dedicated buttons for jumping to tv or bd direct.

3) TV is confusing because the unit really has TWO seperate inputs, TV and Cable/Sat.

4) Tried hooking up two ways, A) all devices going through this unit and the TV just stays on hdmi1 and B) all devices going to TV , then an audio cable back to the sony for sound. Both work but what is lousy about B is that you must rememeber to also loop through the functions to get the sony back to tv when you are done watching a BluRay. B lets easier video selection but not sound. Have to use two remotes.

5) can not turn off or rename inputs.

6) No buttons on unit. It is just flat and touch sensitive but not dependable, we’d touch but the unit woulnd’t acknowledge. It was easier to use the remote standing at the unit.

I like to concentrate on the negative things 1st, I think they’re the most useful.


Why four stars?
1) Remote control is picky with a narrow angle tolerance.
2) Sound quality isn’t 110 acceptable
A) Bass should have been a bit better/deeper
B) Volume should have been a bit louder
C) clearness may have been better
In other words it did not surpass my expectations)

Positives
1) Everything else

Would I recommend this ???? >> totally, purchase it, you’ll haven’t regrets
